Something Something Saurus

Description

Excuse my terrible dinosaur anatomy.

This little beastie is something I made up as a dinosaur that lives on Skull Island. If you didn't know it, Skull Island is the island King Kong and many other dinosaurs call home. Now, let me explain.

This is, obviously, modeled after a Carnotaurus. If you don't know what they are, you should look them up; they are extremely interesting. You should know what they are if you've watched the Disney movie Dinosaur, or read the book The Lost World. Since I haven't given it a scientific name, i'll just call it the Carnotaur for easier reading.

The Carnotaur stands, roughly, a little taller than half the size of the V Rexes seen in Peter Jackson's King Kong. This means they range from 10 to 15 feet tall. They range from 25 to 35 feet long. The Carnotaur has a bite force of, roughly, three tons.

Despite their large size, they are incredibly agile and flexible. They are incredibly narrow, which, obviously, can't be seen from side views. Their chests are extremely deep, and they have a rather thin waist. This is so because the Carnotaur often has to run several miles to catch up to its prey, which will be explained later. The chest cavity has expanded to hold a larger, faster-beating heart. Their chest has enlarged to hold larger lungs that are capable of a larger intake of oxygen. Due to the fast that they live, primarily, in the dense jungles of Skull Island, nearly every bone in the Carnotaur's body is somewhat flexable. They are often running at speeds of 30 to 40 miles an hour through dense jungle.

Their back is covered by a ridge of incredibly tough scales. These scales help protect the beast from spinal injuries, which would reduce it's agility, for it has an icredibly flexible spinal cord and spine. Spikes run down the creature's back and down to its tail, being more abundant toward the end. Ot has obvious horns at the top of the skull, and, often, one to two horns along the top jaw, or "nose." Smaller spikes are in clumps around the eyes and legs. The skin isn't extremely beady for a reptile, but the skin is incredibly tough.

The eeth are uneven, and no two Carnotaur's have the same tooth structure or amount. The throat dips down, and this area holds a large venom sack. This venom is connected to the mouth and the larger horns on the head by many vein-like tubes. The Carnotaur has no control of when the venom is pumped to these areas, so it is constantly pumping the poisonous liquid into these areas.

The carnotaur's venom is strong toward the sense of smell. When a Carnotaur opens its mouth, you'll know it. The smell is horrid enough to make your eyes water.

The venom takes thirty to thirty-five minutes to complete its process. By this time, the prey has fled to a safe area. But, because of the horrid stench of the venom, the carnotaur is able to use its amazing sense of smell to track its prey down and begin to feast. Other dinosaurs never eat the prey, for the venom is spread thourought the body, and can be injested by other creatures. However, the carnotaur is a picky eater, and wouldn't allow any tim for maggots to infest its kill.

The venom starts by making the prey light-headed and nauseous. Soon after, the prey will have blurred vision, and the muscles in the neck and legs begin to feel weak and sore. This is meant to slow the prey down, giving the Carnotaur less work in hunting the carcass down. After that, the prey will start to become paralyzed in the legs and neck, along with a painful, burning sensation. After the prey falls, it will often cough up blood, as well as defacate. The process is slow and painful. Other Carnotaurs are not effected by the venom. The venom can, however, be flushed out of the body if a large amount of water is taken in, and you urinate.

Carnotaurs usually travel in groups of up to three. The groups are often broodmates that have survived to maturity. Pregnant females will travel with their partner until the eggs are laid, and then the two will part and leave the eggs to fend for themselves. They are one of the rare species on the island that still lay eggs.

Females are larger than males, and often have a more potent venom.

If I ever have time, I'll write a fanfiction on how two of these beasts killed kong's mother.
